New Infiniti Q50 at Geneva Motor Show

New Infiniti Q50 Rival for the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4

The new Infiniti Q50 will make its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show this month. The Infiniti Q50 was first shown in January at the Detroit Motor Show and all eyes were on this rival for the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.

The Q50 replaces the Infiniti G Series saloon and features a curvaceous 'double arch' grille and an inverted crescent-shaped kink in the C-pillar. The new exterior look gives the Q50 more smooth lines and a stronger road presence. The Q50 comes standard with rear wheel drive but there is an all wheel drive package available that can be added. The interior features improved head and legroom for passengers while active noise cancellation, via the Bose sound system, comes as standard.

New Infiniti Q50 Direct Adaptive Steering Technology

The Q50 is the first car to feature Nissan’s new Direct Adaptive Steering technology, this allows independent control of wheel angle and steering based on the drivers enthusiasm! There are four settings that give the driver more control over the vehicle. The system is a ‘world first’, it uses a fly-by-wire system where inputs to the wheel are fed electronically to a motor which moves the steering rack accordingly. The driver can adjust the feel and weight of the steering to their personal tastes, and the system also includes an auto-steering lane keeping assist function. Should the electronic system fail there is a back up steering column, which uses a clutch to reconnect the steering column and wheel. The current system is a legal requirement for the time being, but Nissan is hopeful that this rule can be changed in the long term.

The innovative lane departure system; Active Lane Control is quite remarkable it uses a camera in the rearview mirror to detect lane markings and sense road conditions that will actually steer the car according to the situation. For example, if you are driving over a bridge and hit an unexpected crosswind, the system will correct the steering and adjust to the road. Adaptive cruise control with forward and reverse collision alert systems as well as blind spot monitoring will also be available on the Infiniti Q50.

The new Infiniti Q50 is set to go on sale in the UK this coming June, it will be shown at Geneva with four cylinder petrol and diesel engines, prices will be released nearer the time of sale.
