New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Night View Assist Plus System
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available with a tremendously desirable optional extra
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available with a tremendously desirable optional extra - the Night View Assist Plus system. This extraordinary technology makes driving in poor light conditions far easier, safer, and more relaxing. That sounds pretty good to me, so let's grab the Mercedes handbook and see how it works. The Mercedes-Benz Night View Assist Plus system has three main elements. These start with the headlight mounted infrared beams that, without blinding oncoming traffic, monitor the road ahead. These work in conjunction with an infrared camera that sends a grey- scale image to the 8” viewing screen. Motorists then glance at this image as you would a rear-view mirror. Very clever too. Mercedes-Benz claim this mind-boggling technology allows motorists to see as far as they would with full beam headlights. This is clearly potentially life saving, as identifying hazards - even a split second earlier - can be the difference between a minor avoidance manoeuvre or a serious incident. So, on that basis the Night View Assist Plus system deserves a big thumbs-up. According to Motoring.co.uk's extensive database, prices for the new Mercedes-Benz S- Class range from £59,575 - £154,390. You'll then have to add a few quid for the infrared wizardry. By contrast, a three year old example could be your new best friend from a comparatively modest £28,000. Sounds like a bargain.
