Nissan Qazana Concept
Building the Nissan will secure 1100 jobs
The Nissan Qazana has been featured at the Geneva Motor show. Preparations to build the quirky model will get under way at the firms Sunderland plant next year. This will secure the future of 1100 jobs.
Nissan are looking to repeat the success of the Qashqai crossover sport utility which has been a huge hit across Europe. The Qazana is part beach buggy, part Micra. It is Micra sized with a clear family resemblance to the larger Qashqai and Murano crossovers when it comes to the style.
The concept features electrically-operated doors and rear hinged back half doors, it is expected to have a more conventional door layout when it is produced. The interior design of the car ‘reflects motorcycle design and construction’. Interior designer Peter Ray explains the shape of the centre console and armrest has been inspired by the fuel tank and seat of a sports bike. The metal frame of the centre console and parts of the door frame are left exposed, contrasting with the upholstered sections and grooved rubber-mat floor.
Added luxuries include a sat nav system and display screen with touch screen controls for vehicle settings and air conditioning.
When the Qazana goes on sale in 2011 the prices are expected to start at around £9000 going up to around £12000
