Peugeot 308 wins ‘Best New Car’
2014 Fleet World Honours
The new Peugeot 308 has been awarded the ’Best New Car’ in the 2014 Fleet World Honours, this latest award comes after the 308 won the 2014 European Car of the Year in March. The stunning new car boasts style, quality, efficiency and outstanding dynamics.
The 308 is approximately 140kg lighter than its predecessor, with a stylish exterior, an ‘i-Cockpit’ inspired interior that combines instrumentation viewed over the smaller steering wheel, a 9.7” touchscreen control display, a wide range of new PureTech Petrol and BlueHDi Diesel engines each with class-leading performance and CO2 emissions from just 82g/km. It is available in a five-door Hatchback or SW estate, both with the biggest boot space in their sector it really does boast everything for a winning formula.
Fleet World Editor, Steve Moody said “the 308 is the best car Peugeot has launched in years, with super-low emissions, an excellent three cylinder petrol engine, lots of space and a cabin that is as good as anything from a premium brand, if not better. The clever infotainment system also means drivers are distracted less and it's keenly priced too, making it a major force in fleet”.
The family hatchback is available in four trim levels, Access (from £14,495), Active (from £17,195), Allure (from £18,645) and Feline (from £20,995). All the models are available with five petrol and HDi diesel engines and all of these engines offer class-leading fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The highlight for environmentally aware drivers is the 1.6-litre HDi 92, which has CO2 emissions of just 93g/km
Peugeot also picked up another award with the Bipper Van picking up the ‘Best Light Van’.
The Bipper is a popular choice for local deliveries or for compact, cost-effective transport as its size and taller design is a perfect shape for this purpose. Combining a good level of specification, capability and efficient engines for performance, the Bipper is a natural winner, having won the International Van of the Year title previously. John Kendall, Fleet World Van Editor said “if you need a light van, the versatile Bipper is hard to beat. High payload and low running costs give it an enduring appeal.” The Peugeot Bipper shares the ‘Best light Van’ award prize with its sister vehicles the Citroën Nemo and the Fiat Fiorino.
The UK is currently the third largest market for Peugeot vehicles. Recent models in the eight-car line-up include the expanding 208 range with the GTi and luxurious XY versions, supplemented by the new 2008 Urban Crossover and the new class-leading 308. The new 108 is available in Hatchback or 108 Top! Cabrio which is the brand’s latest model, introducing new levels of style, technology, efficiency and personalisation to the compact car sector and will be available in the UK in July 2014.
