Volkswagen Golf is ‘World’s Best Car’
Europe’s best selling car
The new Volkswagen Golf has been voted the ‘World’s Best Car’, the global prize was awarded at the New York Motor Show. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft said “we at Volkswagen are all delighted that the Golf has been named ‘World Car of the Year’. To win this award again shows that the Golf is and remains in a class of its own all around the world. This car sets new benchmarks again and again, not least in terms of efficiency and environmental credentials. Soon, for instance, the Golf will also be launched as a plug-in hybrid and as a 100% electric car.”
It is a fantastic achievement for the Volkswagen Golf, the ‘World Car of the Year’ jury consists of sixty six motoring journalists from twenty three countries, who rate new cars appearing on the world market not only for the award, but also in their daily reporting work for millions of drivers and car enthusiasts. The Golf is no stranger to the World Car of the Year award; the previous Golf won the award in 2009. Other Volkswagen models have been equally as successful with the trophy going to the up! in 2012 and the Volkswagen Polo overall winner in 2010. The World Green Car of the Year 2010 was awarded to the BlueMotion models of the Polo, Golf and the Passat.
Latest Volkswagen Golf
Order books opened for the latest Volkswagen Golf in October last year. This model is lighter, safer, more advanced and more efficient than previous generations. It is offered in three trim levels; S, SE and GT (the GTI and Bluemotion will arrive in this year), there is a choice of four petrol engines and two diesel engines in either three or five door form. The World Car of the Year Jury said ‘the Golf is just the right size; it’s spacious, practical and comfortable. It has a fresh, progressive design, a new range of engines, plus an impressive list of equipment and safety systems. If there is a car for everyone, the Golf is it.’
As the spring approaches the new Volkswagen Golf Estate will be available to order and over the coming months further models will be added to the Golf range; the Golf GTI and the Golf GTD. Later in the year the new Golf TDI BlueMotion will be available to order and this new model will be extremely popular as it sets new standards in terms of fuel consumption and environmental compatibility.
