Volvo XC90 is Talented Used Purchase
The Volvo XC90 is a talented used purchase for motorists wanting a refined and luxurious 4x4.
The Volvo XC90 is a talented used purchase for motorists wanting a refined and luxurious 4x4. This large off-road vehicle was introduced in 2002 to rival the fashionable BMW X5 and the striking Lexus RX.
At launch the XC90 was available with two engines – a 272bhp 2.9-litre six-cylinder and an underwhelming but competent 163bhp 2.4-litre diesel. These were later joined by three other petrol units including the thrilling 4.4-litre V8. This range topping model produces 310bhp, hits 60mph in 7.1 seconds, and is capable of 130mph. The downside is this monstrous V8 consumes fuel at a wallet-wrecking rate of 20mpg.
The XC90 is also fairly nice to drive. However, despite its four-wheel-drive system this fashionable leviathan is most at home on tarmac. The XC90 is essentially a road car with off-road ability - rather than a hard-core mud plunger. The handling is therefore perfectly acceptable for a vehicle of this nature, but it is inclined to lean through the corners. The compensation is a supremely comfortable ride that soaks up bumps like a limousine.
A used 2007 Volvo XC90 4.4-litre V8 costs in the region of £25,000.
